The in vitro LEC behaviour investigation optimized the photodynamic therapy parameters when light illumination was used for the cell elimination on the photodynamic coating modified IOL. The results have also shown that this functional coating modification effectively eliminates the cells on the surface of the IOL material when treated with light illumination, whereas it keeps excellent cytocompatibility in the absence of light illumination. The investigation of the cell elimination mechanism shows that this kind of functional coating eliminates the adherent cells by ROS induced apoptosis. The in vivo implantation result confirms the excellent PCO inhibition effect, as well as their safety and biocompatibility to the surrounding tissues. As a result, the proposed photodynamic coating provides a safer and effective alternative of IOL modification for preventing PCO.Correction for 'The chemopreventive effects of Huangqin-tea against AOM-induced preneoplastic colonic aberrant crypt foci in rats and omics analysis' by Jie Shen et al., Food Funct., 2020, 11, 9634-9650, DOI 10.1039/D0FO01731K.A series of triazole-based compounds was synthesized using a click chemistry approach and evaluated for the inhibition of α-synuclein (α-syn) fibrillogenesis and its disaggregation. Compounds Tr3, Tr7, Tr12, Tr15, and Tr16 exhibited good effect in inhibiting α-syn fibrillogenesis confirmed by Thioflavin-T assay and fluorescence microscopy and α-syn disaggregation confirmed by fluorescence microscopy. Molecular docking was used to understand the plausible mechanism of the test compounds for inhibiting the α-syn fibrillogenesis and to verify the in vitro results. Compounds Tr3, Tr7, Tr12, Tr15 and Tr16 showed good binding interactions with the essential amino acid residues of α-syn. The compounds which were found to be good inhibitors or disaggregators had no toxic effects on the SH-SY5Y cell line. These compounds have the potential to be developed as therapeutic interventions against synucleinopathies including Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia.Based on widely used photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and photothermal properties of polydopamine (PDA), a multifunctional Gd-PDA-Ce6@Gd-MOF (GPCG) nanosystem with a core-shell structure and strong imaging ability was constructed. Benefitting from the metal-organic framework (MOF) structure, GPCG nanoparticles (NPs) showed enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) ability with high relaxation rates (r1 = 13.72 mM-1 s-1 and r2 = 216.14 mM-1 s-1). The MRI effect of Gd ions combined with the PAI effect of PDA, giving GPCG NPs a dual-modal imaging ability. The core, mainly composed of PDA and photodynamic photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6), achieved photothermal/photodynamic therapy (PTT/PDT) synergistic performance. Besides, to overcome the unexpected release of Ce6, the MOF shell realized pH-sensitive release and a high local concentration. Through in vivo studies, we concluded that GPCG NPs show a good inhibitory effect on tumor growth. In conclusion, we successfully obtained a GPCG theranostic nanoplatform and paved the way for subsequent design of imaging guided therapeutic nanostructures based on metal-doped PDA.Topological states of matter in two-dimensional (2D) materials have received increasing attention due to their potential applications in nanoscale spintronics. Here, we report the presence of unique topological electronic properties in a 2D planar octagon TiB4 compound. Particularly, without considering the spin-orbit coupling (SOC), we found that the material showed a coexistence of novel quadratic node (QN), and two different types of nodal rings (NRs), namely type-I and type-II. The protection mechanism of fermions has been fully clarified in this study. Furthermore, these fermions showed clear edge states. It is worth noting that QN had a topological charge of 2 since it is different from linear nodes and exhibit clear Fermi arc edge states. Under lattice strain, we found that the system could further exhibit rich topological phase transition. When SOC was included, we determined that these crossing points open very tiny energy gaps, which were smaller than previously reported 3D and 2D examples. These results show that monolayer TiB4 is an excellent nodal point and nodal ring semimetal, which also provides a feasible member for studying potential entanglements among multiple fermions. We demonstrate herein the first example of a palladium(ii) catalyzed regioselective ortho-C(sp2)-H arylation in aqueous medium (a sustainable solvent) utilizing 8-AIP (8-aminoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine) as a promising and removable bidentate directing group/auxilliary. This newly developed protocol features a broad substrate scope with excellent functional group tolerance and enables an expeditious route to a library of unsymmetrical amides in good to excellent yields with exclusive site-selectivity.A water meniscus naturally forms under ambient conditions at the point of contact between a nanoscale tip and an atomically flat substrate. Here, we study the effect of the phase state of this nanoscale meniscus-consisting of coexisting monolayer, bilayer and trilayer phase domains-on the frictional behavior during tip sliding by means of molecular dynamics simulations. While the meniscus experiences a domain-by-domain liquid-to-solid phase transition induced by lateral compression, we observe an evident transition in measured friction curves from continuous sliding to stick-slip and meanwhile a gradual increase in friction forces. Moreover, the stick-slip friction can be modulated by varying lattice orientation of the monolayer ice domain in the meniscus, choosing the sliding direction or applying in-plane strains to the substrate. Our results shed light on the rational design of high-performance micro- and nano-electromechanical systems relying on hydration lubrication.Mining companies used to abandon tailing heaps in countryside regions of Mexico and other countries. Mine residues (MRs) contain a high concentration of potentially toxic elements (PTE). The wind can disperse dust particles ( less then 100 μm) and once suspended in the atmosphere, can be ingested or inhaled; this is a common situation in arid climates. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Trichostatin-A.html Nowadays, there is little information on the risk of exposure to PTEs from particulate matter dispersed by wind. The pseudo-total PTE in bulk and fractionated MR after aqua regia digestion, the inhalable bioaccessibility with Gamble solution (pH = 7.4), and the gastric bioaccessibility with 0.4 M glycine solution at pH 1.5 were determined. As and Pb chemical species were identified by X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy. The highest rate of dispersion was observed with 74-100 μm particles (104 mg m-2 s-1); in contrast, particles less then 44 μm had the lowest rate (26 mg m-2 s-1). The highest pseudo-total As (35?961 mg kg-1), Pb (3326 mg kg-1), Cd (44 mg kg-1) and Zn (up to 4678 mg kg-1) concentration was in the less then 20 μm particles and As in the 50-74 μm (40?236 mg kg-1) particles.
